Fed Minutes Signal Hawkish Shift on Inflation

The Federal Reserve has signaled increased concern over persistent inflation, with many officials supporting additional tightening if price pressures persist.

Minutes from the Fed's July meeting show policymakers expressing deeper concern that broad-based price pressures may require a more restrictive policy stance.

Three policymakers dissented in favor of a quarter-point rate hike, but 'many' participants believe further tightening would be needed if inflation does not decline.

The minutes also reveal that Chairman Kevin Warsh raised broader operational questions and sought input on whether the Fed should hold six meetings a year instead of eight.

Market participants now price in rate increases as early as the October 27-28 meeting, as ongoing supply disruptions from the war with Iran contribute to mounting inflation risks and greater policy caution.
