Fed Officials Sound Alarm on Stubborn Inflation Ahead of Jackson Hole Symposium
At the annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, several Federal Reserve officials expressed concerns about inflation. Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid stated that inflation remains 'stubborn and sticky,' and that the central bank's current policy rate is not restrictive enough to combat it.
Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack echoed these sentiments, reiterating her willingness to act on inflation. She noted that price pressures have been above target for over five years and that monetary policy is not doing enough to restrain the economy.
Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee also expressed concern about inflation, warning that it could become entrenched if left unchecked. He emphasized the need for vigilance in monitoring economic data and cautioned against getting 'hyped up' about market expectations.
