Fed Officials Split on Interest Rates as Inflation Concerns Persist
The Federal Reserve has released the minutes of its July 28-29 meeting, revealing that most officials supported maintaining the current interest rate level. However, a few officials favored an increase, suggesting that rates may need to be kept high for longer if inflation fails to continue its downward trend.
As previously announced, the Fed kept the federal funds rate unchanged at 3.50-3.75 percent with a 9-3 vote. Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari, and Lorie Logan were among those who voted in favor of a 25 basis point rate increase.
Inflation remains a top concern for Fed officials, with many participants noting that upward risks to the inflation outlook persist. Some officials even suggested that current financial conditions may not be tight enough to bring inflation back to the Fed's 2 percent target.
