Fed Officials Tread Cautiously Amid Treasury's Debt Management Shift
The US Treasury Department's recent decision to shift its debt management strategy has sparked concerns about its potential impact on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy choices.
Fed officials, including San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly and St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem, have expressed caution when asked how the Treasury's actions could affect their decisions.
Daly told Bloomberg Television that current long-term bond yields do not give the Fed a clear signal about what to do in terms of policy adjustments or calibration.
Musalem said he thinks the Fed should have raised interest rates rather than keeping them steady at its July meeting, and noted that financial conditions are currently pretty accommodative.
