Fed Officials Weigh Rate Hike Amid Stubborn Inflation
The Federal Reserve's decision to hold interest rates steady at its recent meeting has put pressure on policymakers to reconsider their stance and potentially raise rates in September.
A majority of Fed officials voted to keep the federal funds rate between 3.5% and 3.75%, but several members advocated for a 25-basis-point hike, an increase from just a few officials who supported tighter policy in June.
The dissenting votes came from regional bank presidents Beth M. Hammack, Lorie K. Logan, and Neel Kashkari, who argued that delaying action could lead to more severe rate hikes down the line.
