Fed Policymakers Push for Rate Hikes Amid High Inflation Fears
Three US Federal Reserve policymakers dissented from the central bank's decision to keep interest rates steady at 3.50-3.75 percent, arguing that rate hikes were needed now to avoid entrenched inflation.
In a rare display of dissent among Fed members, Beth Hammack, president of the regional Cleveland Fed, said, 'Inflation has been too high for too long.' She warned that prolonged high inflation would make it more challenging and costly to bring it back down.
National security advisor during Trump's presidency Neel Kashkari, also a dissenting vote, stated, 'If inflation remains elevated, in my view, a potential series of small policy moves would be better than waiting and eventually concluding that even bolder actions were necessary.'
