Fed Rate Decision Looms as Warsh Keeps Markets Guessing
The US Federal Reserve's two-day monetary policy meeting began on July 28. The Fed will evaluate sticky inflation data, steady employment numbers, and volatile global energy dynamics before announcing its benchmark interest rate decision tomorrow.
Investors expect the central bank to keep interest rates steady for a fifth consecutive meeting. However, all eyes are fixed on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's post-meeting commentary for signals regarding whether rate hikes could return later this year.
Warsh has deliberately avoided giving detailed forward guidance, making his comments at the press conference crucial in determining the next move in Treasury yields and global equity markets. The Fed will announce its policy decision at 2 pm ET (11:30 pm IST) on Wednesday, July 29, followed by Warsh's press conference at 2:30 pm ET (12 am IST, July 30).
The benchmark federal funds rate currently stands at 3.50%-3.75%, where it has remained since late last year.
