Fed Rate Decision Sparks Midterm Worries for Republicans

The Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates unchanged has put pressure on the Republican party ahead of the November midterms. The Trump administration's policies, including tariffs, have contributed to rising borrowing costs and inflation.

Despite President Trump's claims that lower interest rates would be 'rocket fuel' for growth and make housing more affordable, the Fed maintained its benchmark rate at 3.50-3.75%. This decision was seen as a 'hawkish hold,' with three of the 12 voting members dissenting.

The administration had touted low unemployment and solid consumer spending as indicators of a healthy economy, but these figures have not translated to voters' wallets. A recent study found that voters are more concerned about whether their incomes keep pace with inflation than other economic metrics.
