Fed Rate Hike Chances Hit 53% After Strong Jobs Report

The Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates is still uncertain ahead of its September meeting. Market odds now give a 53% chance that policymakers will raise rates by 25 basis points, according to Kalshi, with the alternative being no change at 48%. This reflects the mixed signals from recent economic data.

The strong August jobs report moved the rate debate back toward a possible hike, as U.S. employers added 162,000 jobs in August, beating economists' expectations. The labor market's resilience suggests it can absorb tighter monetary policy, but inflation remains above the Fed's 2% goal.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has emphasized those inflation risks in recent weeks, turning September into a genuine decision rather than an automatic hold. The next major catalyst arrives Friday with the August Consumer Price Index report, which could move Kalshi's probability considerably in either direction.
