Fed Set to Raise Rates Despite Trump Opposition
The Federal Reserve is set to increase its benchmark interest rate for the first time in three years on Wednesday, despite President Donald Trump's calls for a cut. This move aims to combat stubbornly high inflation, which has been a persistent issue.
Analysts and economists widely expect a quarter-point increase in the Fed's rate, currently about 3.6%, although there is no guarantee due to the more opaque signals provided by current Chair Kevin Warsh compared to his predecessors.
In a recent speech at the Fed's annual conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Warsh argued that the central bank had not yet achieved its goal of putting inflation in check.
