Fed Sets Stage for September Rate Hike Amid Inflation Concerns
The Federal Reserve is paving the way for an interest rate hike in September, according to remarks made by Kevin Warsh, the central bank's chairman. Warsh described the upcoming meeting as a pivotal moment in the Fed's ongoing battle to curb inflation.
Fed officials are scheduled to hold their regular meeting on September 15 and 16, amid rising expectations for another interest rate hike. The implied probability of a rate increase at the September meeting jumped to over 50%, compared to just 35% before Warsh's speech at the Fed's annual conference in Jackson Hole.
The August US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, due on September 11, will be a crucial factor in determining the Fed's decision. If inflation remains significantly above the Fed's 2% target, economists and investors expect interest rates to rise.
