Fed Signals Rate Hikes as Inflation Remains High
The latest inflation gauge from the Federal Reserve shows that prices remain high in America. The Commerce Department reported on Wednesday that prices rose by 3.7% in July compared to a year earlier, matching June's rate.
This is concerning for many Americans who are already struggling with higher costs. Inflation has worsened since the US and Israel attacked Iran in late February, when it stood at 2.9%. It's noticeably above the Fed's target of 2%.
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh signaled on Friday that interest rates may need to be raised in the coming months to bring down inflation. In his speech at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he acknowledged that recent US data show inflation has cooled a bit, but 'they do not tell me that underlying trends have meaningfully improved.'
Warsh's comments suggest that the Fed may take action soon to combat inflation, which could impact consumers and businesses alike.
