Fed Stands Pat on Interest Rates Amid Trump Pressure

The Federal Reserve maintained interest rates for the fifth consecutive time following its latest meeting. The decision came after President Trump expressed his desire to see lower interest rates, a view that is not universally shared among investors.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh emphasized the central bank's dual-track priorities: a strong job market and low inflation. He noted that June's inflation numbers were generally positive but highlighted the challenge posed by recent conflicts in the Middle East, which have driven up energy prices.

The ongoing conflict with Iran has complicated the Fed's efforts to keep inflation under control, Warsh said. The economy is showing resilience despite these shocks, with job gains keeping pace with workforce growth and an unemployment rate that has remained steady. However, inflation remains elevated relative to the 2% target set by the committee.
