Federal Reserve Holds Interest Rate Steady Amid Inflation Fears
The Federal Reserve maintained its benchmark interest rate at about 3.6% on Wednesday, opting to keep borrowing costs steady amid inflation concerns.
The central bank's rate-setting committee voted 9-3 after a two-day meeting, marking the fifth consecutive meeting without a change in rates.
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh noted that he has 'no tolerance' for elevated inflation and emphasized the importance of maintaining the 2% target. He stated, 'There is no soft inflation target. There is no soft implicit target. Not on this committee's watch. There's only a target and it's 2%.'
The economy is showing resilience despite recent shocks, according to Warsh, with job gains keeping pace with the workforce and unemployment remaining steady.
