Federal Reserve Keeps Interest Rates Unchanged Amid Inflation Concerns
The US Federal Reserve made its decision to keep interest rates unchanged, maintaining the federal funds target range at 3.50% to 3.75%. This decision was met with opposition from three members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), who favored raising interest rates by 25 basis points.
In a statement, the Fed noted that inflation remains relatively elevated compared to its 2% target, reflecting supply shocks in certain sectors, including energy. The unemployment rate has also remained unchanged.
US President Donald Trump had previously called on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates, stating that the United States should have the lowest interest rates in the world.
