Feds Seize Chinese Hacking Infrastructure Targeting US Government Entities

Federal law enforcement in San Diego has seized core infrastructure used by Chinese state-sponsored hackers to target high-profile U.S. government entities and critical infrastructure.

The hacking campaign dates back to 2018, with targets including NASA, the Federal Reserve, and various U.S. departments such as Energy, Justice, and Health and Human Services, as well as the U.S. Senate.

The seized domains belonged to QScan and QTRouter, two cyber platforms linked to a Chinese group known as QTFY, which worked through Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Co. to provide hacking services to Chinese intelligence and military arms.

According to court filings, the platforms infected thousands of devices worldwide to construct an obfuscation network that masked attack origins.

U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche said this sends a message to hackers worldwide: 'State-sponsored malicious hackers preying on America’s critical infrastructure will be stopped and prosecuted.'
