Fed's Steady Interest Rates Fail to Calm Markets Amidst US-Iran Tensions
The Federal Reserve's decision to maintain interest rates at their current levels has left investors pondering the path ahead, according to Bianca Botes, Managing Director at Citadel Global.
Botes highlighted that three votes were recorded in favour of a rate hike, but the Fed did not provide forward guidance. This lack of clarity contributed to negative sentiment across Wall Street before the announcement, with all three major indices experiencing declines.
However, US futures appeared to recover early this morning following the Fed's decision, suggesting tentative optimism in the market.
The ongoing strikes between the United States and Iran have introduced a layer of uncertainty that has contributed to volatility in oil markets. Oil prices surged over 7% yesterday but have since stabilised just below $90 per barrel mark today.
