FIFA Slams Life Bans on Football Officials Amid Financial Misconduct Scandals
FIFA has imposed severe penalties on several former football association officials for their involvement in various financial misdeeds.
The most notable case is that of Bassam Adeel Jaleel, who was banned from all football-related activities for life. Jaleel was found guilty of misappropriating COVID-19 relief funds for personal use and was also ordered to pay a fine of one million Swiss francs (USD 1.23 million).
Jaleel's troubles don't end there. He is currently serving prison sentences totalling 32 years for depositing FIFA funds into his personal account and using money from the COVID-19 Relief Plan to buy an apartment.
In another case, former Football Association of Maldives (FAM) director of finance and administration Mohamed Ageel was banned for 10 years. He has also been ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs for facilitating and concealing misuse of FIFA funds.
