Fiji Budget to Deliver More Relief Measures Amid Global Uncertainty
Fiji's government is preparing to announce additional relief measures in its upcoming national budget for 2026-27, which will aim to support households, businesses, and the economy amidst rising fuel costs and global uncertainty. Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel has confirmed that the Ministry is working with multilateral development partners such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to secure additional financing for the upcoming financial year.
According to Immanuel, the government is exploring options to reduce taxes on fuel, provide relief to businesses and workers by reducing FNPF rates, offer working capital support and concessional financing through the Reserve Bank of Fiji and other financial institutions. The Minister also mentioned relaxed tax payment arrangements to provide cash flow relief for taxpayers, as well as tax incentives for businesses that rely heavily on fuel.
Australia has committed $47.23 million in budget support, while New Zealand is expected to provide around $13.38 million. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has also mentioned review of support packages for the tourism sector and income support measures for citizens.
