Ford told ABC News that the tariffs are 'absolutely backwards' and would harm the American economy, which relies heavily on Canadian goods. Over 70% of Canada's total exports go to the U.S., and nearly 60% of its imports come from the U.S.

Canada has responded to Trump's tariffs by imposing retaliatory measures on many U.S. goods starting September 8. Ford emphasized that his government values its relationship with the American people, but is critical of the current trade policies.
