Foreign Buyers Slow Down in US Housing Market
Foreign homebuyers in the United States purchased $45.3 billion worth of existing homes from April 2025 to March 2026, a 19.1% decrease from the previous year's dollar value and a 14% drop in number of properties.
The National Association of REALTORS' 2026 International Transactions in U.S. Residential Real Estate report found that international buyers bought 67,100 homes during this period, with a median price of $465,000.
NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun attributed the decline to fewer foreign visitors and tourists, despite a slightly weaker U.S. dollar.
Canada was the top country of origin for foreign buyers, accounting for 16% of all purchases, while China remained the largest source of dollar volume at $7.6 billion.
