Forint Fights Back Against Euro and Dollar on Friday
The Hungarian forint showed signs of recovery on Friday after a tumultuous week, appreciating against all three major foreign currencies. Despite still being weaker than it was at the start of June, the forint has gained solid ground since the beginning of the year.
Against the euro, the forint rebounded from its recent decline, with one euro trading at HUF 362.19 by 6 PM on Friday, down from HUF 364.12 earlier in the day. The US dollar also fell, trading at HUF 318.12 by 6 PM, while the Swiss franc declined to HUF 389.55.
The forint's gains were modest, with a rise of around 0.5% against both the euro and the Swiss franc during the day, and a strengthening of 0.6% against the US dollar. However, despite this recovery, the forint remains weaker than it was at the beginning of June, down by 1.7% against the euro and 1.8% against the US dollar.
Looking ahead to the broader picture, the forint has appreciated by 5.8% against the euro, 2.8% against the US dollar, and 5.7% against the Swiss franc since the beginning of the year.
