Former Iranian Official Linked to Funding Terrorism in Middle East
A former Iranian official, Abbas Omidi, has been linked to generating government revenue that helped fund Iran's military and armed groups in the Middle East.
Omidi, who lives in Toronto, held a senior role in Iran's mining sector, which allowed him to 'directly benefit the Iranian economy' according to a Canada Border Services Agency assessment.
The agency stated that Omidi's influence helped the government fund the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and armed groups abroad, citing human rights abuses and terrorism as concerns.
