The Foxton solar farm project has become the latest to receive Fast-track approval from the New Zealand Government. This is the eighth renewable energy project and 32nd overall to be granted this status, allowing for streamlined development and construction.

Genesis Energy submitted its application in February, which was approved after a review by an independent expert panel that took approximately three and a half months. The solar farm will generate around 345 GWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to power about 47,000 homes.

The project is expected to create around 100 jobs during construction and contribute significantly to the local economy, both directly and indirectly. Energy Minister Shane Jones highlighted the project's potential in driving regional economic growth and advancing New Zealand's transition to a more reliable and sustainable energy future.
