Moneris Solutions Corporation (the Canadian payments and commerce company) has announced that it will be acquired by Francisco Partners, a global investment firm specializing in partnering with technology companies. The acquisition is worth approximately C$2.0 billion, with Bank of Montreal (BMO) and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) each receiving a 50% share. BMO and RBC have established long-term referral agreements with Moneris, ensuring they will continue to refer customers exclusively.

The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the first quarter of BMO and RBC's fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Following the closure, Jeff Sloan, former President and CEO of Global Payments Inc., will join Moneris as Chairman.

Peter Christodoulo, Partner at Francisco Partners, stated that Moneris is one of the strongest payments solution providers in North America, with a trusted brand and leading technology. He believes there's an opportunity to build on this foundation through continued investment in innovation and growth.
