Frontier AI Models Outpace Financial Defenses: FSB Warns G20
Financial Stability Board (FSB) chair Andrew Bailey warned G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in a letter that frontier AI models are outpacing financial defenses. The FSB is a global watchdog that identifies and manages risks in financial systems.
Bailey noted that many countries lack rules for deploying advanced AI models, which could undermine market confidence system-wide due to the sector's reliance on concentrated third-party technology providers.
The letter highlighted concerns about cyber risk, with Bailey stating that frontier AI may have the ability to materially alter the speed, scale, and economics of cyber risk. Firms and authorities should prepare for a threat environment marked by a higher volume of vulnerabilities and a faster pace of patching, he warned.
