FTSE 100 Rises Amid Global Gains, Oil Prices on Brink of $100 Mark
The FTSE 100 index rose by 0.1% to 10,764.54 at the start of the new trading week, while Brent crude oil prices increased by 0.8% to $89.20 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate was up 0.3% at $82.64.
Dan Coatsworth, head of markets at AJ Bell, attributed the rise to robust gains across Asia and softer-than-anticipated inflation numbers in the US, which reduced fears of an imminent rate hike from the Federal Reserve.
However, Coatsworth cautioned that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East may test market sentiment, potentially leading to higher oil prices and a re-evaluation of inflation expectations.
