FTSE 100 Rises on Better-Than-Expected UK GDP Figures
The FTSE 100 index rose by 0.6% to 10,673.24 on Friday, following better-than-expected UK GDP figures.
The economy expanded 0.4% in July, beating expectations of no growth, with services growth at 0.4%, production and construction at 0.2% and 0.1% respectively.
According to the Office for National Statistics, ongoing strength in the services sector was partially offset by falls in both production and construction.
Susannah Streeter, chief investment strategist at Wealth Club, said that while it's 'far from a rip-roaring recovery', the UK economy has more staying power than feared.
