FTSE 100 Surges on Robust Retail Sales Data

The UK's FTSE 100 index experienced a significant gain on July 24th, reaching its highest level since early March. The index increased by 0.91% to settle at 10,736 points.

This upward momentum was driven by stronger-than-expected retail sales data across the United Kingdom, which soundly beat analyst projections. According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), year-on-year retail sales accelerated from 3.5% in May to 4.2% in June, vastly exceeding market expectations of a 2.3% increase.

The recent deceleration in consumer price inflation and stable labour market conditions collectively diminish the necessity for the Bank of England (BoE) to adopt a more restrictive monetary stance amidst global geopolitical headwinds.
