FTSE 100 Surges to New High on Weak US Jobs Data
The FTSE 100 Index closed up 33.20 points at 10,901.09 on Friday, marking a 0.3% gain for the week.
A surprise drop in US jobs figures contributed to the pound's rise against the dollar, trading at 1.3498 dollars from 1.3454 dollars at Thursday's close.
The FTSE 250 also reached a record high, closing up 159.44 points at 24,854.86, while the AIM All-Share rose 8.76 points to 795.89.
Thomas Feltmate of TD Economics described the US jobs report as 'soft', but said it might temper expectations for a September interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve.
