G20 Finance Leaders Meeting: Katayama and Bessent's Joint Intervention
Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama announced her attendance at next week's G20 finance leaders meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.
Katayama stated that she would contribute to discussions on global economy and international finance. Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda is also expected to attend the gathering.
The markets are focused on whether Katayama will meet with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, after their coordinated currency intervention last month to prop up the sagging yen.
Katayama said that her administration's efforts to boost investment and strengthen Japan's growth potential would help enhance the yen's credibility by boosting its global competitiveness.
