G20 Leaders Emphasize Economic Growth Amid Record Global Debt
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh emphasized economic growth as the solution to record global debt at a recent G20 meeting in Asheville, North Carolina.
Warsh marked his first international economic policy meeting since taking office by stating that the world is witnessing a 'global investment surge' that's reversing past savings gluts. He attributed this shift to increased capital flows into new sectors such as artificial intelligence data centers and infrastructure development.
The Fed chief, who attended the G20 from the annual central bankers' conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where he hinted at potential interest rate hikes to combat rising price pressures, believes growth rates may exceed traditional forecasts of 1.8% annually with 'muted' productivity growth.
Bessent echoed Warsh's sentiments on economic growth as a solution to global debt by stating that stronger economic growth is contributing to higher U.S. Treasury yields and borrowing costs.
