The G7 financial sector recently conducted a cross-border coordination exercise to strengthen cyber resilience. The Bank of Canada, in collaboration with other G7 members, organized the simulation on May 18, 2026.

The exercise aimed to test the preparedness and response of G7 financial authorities to a large-scale cyber-attack across all jurisdictions. This was done by simulating a major cross-border cyber incident affecting the financial sector.

The Bank of Canada stated that the exercise demonstrates the Group's ongoing commitment to strengthening cyber resilience across the G7 financial sector. The central bank also mentioned that a long-term exercise strategy has been adopted, which will increase the frequency and consistency of these simulations.
