Gas Prices Fuel US Inflation Surge to 2-Year High
US inflation accelerated in August as gas prices spiked, according to recent data. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.1% from July to August, marking a faster pace than expected. Gasoline prices were the main contributor to this increase, with a 5.6% jump in prices over the same period.
The inflation rate is now at its highest level since September last year, when it reached 2.9%. The August increase was also higher than the 0.1% rise seen in July. While experts say the latest numbers are concerning, they don't necessarily signal a broader economic downturn.
One expert notes that gasoline prices can be volatile and may have contributed to the overall inflation rate. However, others warn that sustained high inflation could put pressure on consumers' purchasing power and potentially slow down economic growth.
