Gas Prices Spark Inflation Spike as US Annual Rate Hits 5.3%
US inflation accelerated in August due to a significant spike in gas prices. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1% from July, surpassing expectations.
This marks the sixth consecutive month of rising inflation, with the annual rate reaching 5.3%. Gasoline prices led the charge, increasing by 10.6% in August alone.
The rise in gas prices has been largely attributed to global supply chain disruptions and ongoing conflicts in key oil-producing regions.
