GBP Bounces Back Against JPY as Experts Predict Short-Lived Intervention
The British Pound (GBP) made a comeback against the Japanese Yen (JPY), bouncing back to near 212.25 during Wednesday's European trading session.
Experts agree that any US-Japan intervention aimed at boosting the yen will be short-lived, as it doesn't address the fundamental issues behind its weakness.
Analysts at BNY Mellon argue that recent coordinated intervention has only bought time and hasn't increased foreign JPY holdings. They note that investors remain net long on the yen but exposure is below H1 2026 levels.
Societe Generale analysts believe a sustained recovery in the yen will depend on macroeconomic factors, not policy theatrics, while TD Securities views the latest intervention as a stopgap measure to give fiscal policy time to induce global demand for JPY-based assets.
