GBP/CAD Exchange Rate Boosted as Pound Strengthens and Canada's Economy Surges
The Pound to Canadian Dollar exchange rate has shown some strength in recent days, recovering from an early-week decline and reaching 1.8895 at Friday's close.
This comes after the Bank of England held its interest rate steady at 3.75%, with three policymakers voting for an immediate increase. However, Governor Andrew Bailey downplayed the urgency of another move, leading markets to reduce their expectations for a September hike.
The Canadian Dollar has also been supported by strong economic data, including a 0.3% rise in May's GDP and revised growth of 0.6% in April. This has reinforced expectations that the Bank of Canada will leave rates unchanged over the coming months.
This week will be key for the GBP/CAD exchange rate, with Canadian jobs report on Friday being the main event. A strong hiring figure could support the Loonie and push the pair towards 1.90, while a weak report could lift it through this level and towards 1.9050.
