GBP/CAD Extends Recovery as BoC Decision Looms
The Pound to Canadian Dollar exchange rate has shown signs of recovery following a significant decline last week. The GBP/CAD traded at CA$1.8809, up around 0.2% from the start of last week's session.
The Canadian dollar faced significant selling pressure amid concerns over the potential economic repercussions of a US-Canada trade war. Following the collapse of US-Canada trade talks and the imposition of new tariffs by President Donald Trump, investors were unnerved by the threat of a trade war between the two countries.
However, Canada's latest GDP figures showed a sharp rebound in growth in the second quarter, helping the 'Loonie' to claw back some of its losses from earlier in the session. The Bank of Canada's (BoC) interest rate decision this week will also be a key factor influencing the GBP/CAD exchange rate.
According to analysis, if the BoC signals the potential need for more accommodating monetary policy to support the Canadian economy, the 'Loonie' may extend its losses. On the other hand, a dovish stance from the BoC could lead to an extension of the Pound's recovery.
