GBP/CAD Flat Ahead of UK General Election Amid Ongoing Oil Price Uncertainty
The Pound Sterling Canadian Dollar (GBP/CAD) exchange rate remained flat as the UK approaches its general election, just five weeks away. The uncertainty surrounding the election has left investors hesitant to make any significant moves in the market.
FX strategist Jordan Rochester at Nomura pointed out that it's too early to determine who will win the election and that this uncertainty will keep foreign investors from overcommitting to UK assets.
The Canadian Dollar, on the other hand, was left flat against the Pound due to a decline in oil prices despite recent optimism surrounding a potential US-China trade deal. China's Foreign Ministry announced that President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump have been in contact, causing an increase in risk appetite.
However, this boost did not have a significant impact on the Canadian Dollar, which remains under pressure due to a potential decline in oil prices.
