GBP Edges Higher Against USD Amid Strong NFP Data

The British Pound (GBP) edged higher against the US Dollar (USD) on Monday, as the USD struggled to capitalize on strong Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) data from August. The NFP figure showed a significant increase of 162K jobs, surpassing estimates of 56K.

Despite this, the US Dollar Index (DXY) remained subdued near 99.10, still within Friday's trading range. This led to a slight increase in the Federal Reserve's (Fed) interest rate expectations, with analysts at Commerzbank noting that the probability of a September Fed rate hike rose to 62% from 51% before the employment report.

Investors are now awaiting UK Chancellor John Healey's speech, expected to discuss the state of the economy ahead of next month's Budget. Strategists at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) suggest that remarks from Healey will likely revolve around raising taxes and reducing expenditure to build a fiscal buffer against uncertainty.
