GBP Edges Higher Ahead of Key US Jobs Data Amid Softer Economic Indicators
The British Pound continued its upward trend, trading above 1.3450 ahead of the US ADP Employment and ISM Services Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) reports on Wednesday.
This modest gain is attributed to softer US economic data and cooling US-Iran tensions. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that JOLTS Job Openings declined to 7.359 million in June, below the market expectation of 7.4 million.
Market participants are closely watching the ADP Employment report, which could provide clues about the health of the labor market and the US interest rate path. Economists project a Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) increase of 80,000 in July, with the Unemployment Rate holding steady at 4.2%.
The Bank of England's decision to keep interest rates unchanged at 3.75% last week has also had an impact on the market. BoE Governor Andrew Bailey pushed back against expectations of an imminent tightening cycle, stating that the disinflation process remains intact.
