GBP/EUR Exchange Rate Seesaws Amidst German Data and ECB Signals
The Pound Euro exchange rate has experienced some fluctuations in recent days, with the GBP/EUR pair initially firming up on Tuesday before retreating as German data lent support to the single currency.
At the time of writing, the exchange rate was trading at €1.1688, having pulled back from a one-week high of €1.1696.
The Pound's initial rise may have been due in part to a slight improvement in market risk appetite, which made it more appealing to investors. However, the lack of economic data meant that Sterling struggled to sustain its upside.
In contrast, the Euro managed to recoup its losses against the Pound thanks to stronger-than-expected German economic data. Germany's latest IFO business climate index rose more than expected in August, improving for the fourth consecutive month and hitting its highest level in a year.
