GBP/JPY Rebounds Amid BoJ Hawkish Bets

The British Pound (GBP) has staged an intraday recovery against the Japanese Yen (JPY), snapping its two-day losing streak and reaching a one-month high of 211.80.

This rebound is attributed to a combination of factors, including the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) more hawkish monetary policy bets, which have undermined the JPY. Additionally, concerns over Japan's worsening fiscal conditions, exemplified by its record-high general-account budget requests totaling ¥143 trillion ($894 billion), have contributed to selling pressure around the JPY.

The GBP/JPY cross has been impacted by the BoJ's policy tightening expectations and borrowing costs in Japan remaining lower than in other major economies. However, some investors are pricing in a more hawkish BoJ, which is keeping the so-called JPY carry trade active.
