GBP/JPY Rebounds Amidst Intervention-Driven Volatility
The British Pound has retreated against the Japanese Yen this week, falling by about 0.24%. Despite this decline, the GBP/JPY cross is poised to finish the week with minimal gains, trading at around 212.64.
The pair's technical outlook suggests a sideways movement, but slightly tilted to the downside, following an intervention in the FX markets by US and Japanese authorities. This intervention was prompted by soft US jobs data, which led Japanese Finance Minister Katayama to agree with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that FX markets had been affected by moves rather than fundamentals.
As a result of this agreement, the GBP/JPY dropped to its day's low of 211.47, just below the 200-day SMA of 211.91. However, buyers quickly reclaimed and surpassed 212.00, pushing the cross towards its current price.
