GBP/JPY Slides Amid BoE Rate Decision Anticipation

The GBP/JPY currency pair has declined by 0.23% to around 217.84, as the British Pound weakens across major currencies ahead of this week's central bank meetings.

Market participants are scaling back their positions before the Bank of England's (BoE) rate decision on Thursday, which is expected to keep its benchmark rate steady at 3.75%.

The recent drop in Oil prices has eased inflation worries, but risks persist due to ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, as well as energy disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.

Fiscal concerns also add to the Pound's woes, with Prime Minister Andy Burnham's plans to increase spending on defense, social care, and housing raising questions about financing through higher borrowing or tax hikes.
