GBP/JPY Surges Amid Carry Trade Attraction
The British Pound (GBP) has risen to its highest level against the Japanese Yen (JPY) in two weeks, reaching around 215.35-215.40 during Wednesday's European session.
This move comes as investors continue to seek attractive carry trade strategies due to Japan's still-low borrowing costs, despite a Bank of Japan rate hike to the highest level since 1995.
However, the Yen faces significant headwinds, including worsening fiscal conditions linked to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's economic stimulus measures and tax cuts, as well as ongoing energy supply disruptions associated with the Iran war.
