GBP/JPY Surges as UK Q2 GDP Defies Expectations, GBP Strengthens Against JPY

The British Pound strengthened against the Japanese Yen in early trading on Thursday after UK Q2 GDP data surpassed market forecasts, indicating unexpected resilience in the UK economy.

The Office for National Statistics reported that the UK economy expanded by 0.6% in the second quarter, surpassing the 0.5% consensus estimate and marking a continued recovery from the shallow recession seen in the first half of the year.

The better-than-expected growth was driven by strong performances in the services sector and consumer spending, which offset weakness in manufacturing and construction.

This robust GDP print led to a jump of approximately 0.4% in the GBP/JPY pair, trading near 192.50, as investors interpreted it as a sign that the Bank of England may need to keep interest rates higher for longer.
