GBP/NZD Volatility Continues Amid UK Political Uncertainty and Rising NZD Inflation
The Pound to New Zealand Dollar exchange rate experienced significant volatility last week due to various market factors. The GBP/NZD pair fell to a six-week low before recovering, with the current trading price at NZ$2.3020.
The decline was largely attributed to UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham's surprise choice for Chancellor, John Healey, and concerns over the government's commitment to fiscal discipline. Despite this, GBP was able to recover against riskier currencies as the market mood soured.
New Zealand Dollar (NZD) strengthened at the start of the week, but later retreated after striking a six-week high against the Pound. This movement was influenced by the country's inflation exceeding expectations, accelerating from 3.1% to 4.1% in the second quarter.
