GBP Roars Higher Against NZD Despite Dovish RBNZ Guidance
The Pound-New Zealand Dollar exchange rate jumped to a six-week high after the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) raised its Official Cash Rate by 25 basis points to 2.75% on Wednesday.
This decision was widely anticipated, but the subsequent market reaction centered on the RBNZ's forward guidance, which suggested that hiking this month reduces the risk of further rate increases later.
The New Zealand Dollar tumbled as policymakers expressed dovish sentiment, while the Pound (GBP) surged higher against the Kiwi to a six-week high at NZ$2.3189, up around 1.1% from the start of Wednesday's session.
However, Sterling was left muted against most of its other peers on Wednesday due to continued rises in UK borrowing costs, with UK 10-year yields hitting their highest levels since 2008 and 30-year yields climbing to a 28-year high.
