GBP Sinks to Six-Month Low as BoJ Hike Bets Surge
The British Pound (GBP) has hit a six-month low against the Japanese Yen (JPY), falling below the 209.00 mark for the first time since February 24.
This decline is largely attributed to bets that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) will raise interest rates faster than previously anticipated, with some analysts even predicting a jumbo hike to combat rising inflation expectations and cap long-end yields.
Additionally, renewed speculation about another Japanese currency market intervention has further boosted the JPY, putting downward pressure on the GBP/JPY cross.
However, concerns over Japan's fiscal outlook may limit further gains for the JPY. Meanwhile, a modest uptick in the British Pound, supported by a weaker US Dollar (USD), should contribute to limiting the downside for the GBP/JPY cross.
